Correctional officers intercept smuggling of suspected dangerous drugs into institution

Correctional officers at Tai Lam Centre for Women today (January 10) stopped an attempt by a person in custody to smuggle dangerous drugs into the institution by concealing the drugs in her body.

Upon admission to the institution a few days ago, the 42-year-old female remand person in custody was suspected to have swallowed dangerous drugs. Officers therefore conducted close monitoring on her. Until around 1.45pm today, she discharged a total of 13 small packs of suspected dangerous drugs wrapped in plastic sheet. The woman was remanded for an offence of possession of dangerous drugs.

The case has been reported to the Police.

A spokesperson for the department said, "The department takes every measure to stop the introduction of dangerous drugs or unauthorised articles into correctional institutions in order to maintain good order and discipline in a drug-free environment for all people in its custody."

There have been five seizures of dangerous drugs to date this year.
