Correctional officers intercept smuggling of suspected dangerous drugs into reception centre

      Correctional officers at Lai Chi Kok Reception Centre intercepted suspected dangerous drugs concealed inside the body of a remand person in custody today (January 16).

      Upon admission to the institution yesterday, the 59-year-old male remand person in custody underwent X-ray body scanning on his admission and was suspected to have swallowed dangerous drugs and therefore a close monitor was rendered.

      Until about 2.30pm today, the remand person in custody was found to have discharged a total of 11 small packs of suspected dangerous drugs wrapped in plastic sheet. He was remanded for an offence of possession of dangerous drugs.

      The case has been reported to the Police for investigation.

      A spokesperson for the Correctional Services Department said, "The department takes every measure to stop the introduction of dangerous drugs or unauthorised articles into correctional institutions in order to maintain good order and discipline in a drug-free environment for all people in its custody."

      There have been 11 seizures of dangerous drugs by Correctional officers to date this year.
