Correctional officers intercept smuggling of suspected dangerous drugs into institution

     Correctional officers seized a small quantity of suspected dangerous drugs from a remand person in custody at Lai Chi Kok Reception Centre today (March 27).

     At about 3.35pm, the newly admitted 30-year-old male remand person in custody was escorted to the Reception Centre from court. During admission search, officers found a small pack of suspected dangerous drugs from his private clothing.

     The case has been reported to the Police for investigation.

     A spokesperson for the Correctional Services Department said, "The department takes every measure to stop the introduction of dangerous drugs or unauthorised articles into correctional institutions in order to maintain good order and discipline in a drug-free environment for all people in its custody."

     The person in custody was remanded for an offence of using a false instrument.

     There have been 35 seizures of dangerous drugs by correctional officers to date this year.
