Person in custody assaults Correctional officer in Siu Lam Psychiatric Centre

Correctional officers in Siu Lam Psychiatric Centre stopped a remand person in custody, who was undergoing a mental assessment, from assaulting the staff yesterday (May 25).

At about 1.38pm, the 54-year-old male remand person in custody was found unstable in his mental state. When the officers entered his cell to give treatment, the remand person in custody suddenly lost control of his emotion and attacked one of the officers at scene by biting his left thumb. He was ordered to stop but in vain. He was finally subdued with OC foam.

The officer and the person in custody sustained minor injuries on hand and face respectively and were treated in centre hospital. The remand person in custody was discharged after treatment, while the officer was transferred to a government hospital for further treatment.

The case has been reported to the Police for investigation.

The person in custody was remanded for offences of common assault and criminal damage.
