Correctional officers intercept smuggling of suspected dangerous drugs into reception centre

     Correctional officers at Lai Chi Kok Reception Centre today (June 12) successfully intercepted suspected dangerous drugs which were concealed inside the body of a male remand person in custody.

    After discharging six pellets of suspected dangerous drugs wrapped in plastic sheet yesterday, the 36-year-old male remand person in custody discharged suspected dangerous drugs wrapped in plastic sheet again today under the close monitoring of correctional officers. By 12.10pm today he had discharged a further 20 pellets of suspected dangerous drugs wrapped in plastic sheet. The man was remanded for the offence of trafficking in dangerous drugs.

     The case has been reported to the Police for investigation.

     A spokesperson for the Correctional Services Department said, "The department takes every measure to stop the introduction of dangerous drugs or unauthorised articles into correctional institutions in order to maintain good order and discipline in a drug-free environment for all people in its custody."
