Correctional officers find syringe needle from clothes of remand person in custody

     Correctional officers found a syringe needle suspected to be used as an instrument for injecting drugs from the personal clothes wearing by a newly admitted remand person in custody in Lai Chi Kok Reception Centre yesterday (June 17).

     At 2.45pm, officers found the 5-cm syringe needle inside the vest of the 64-year-old male remand person in custody while conducting routine admission check on him. The man was remanded for an offence of possession of dangerous drugs.

     The case has been reported to the Police for investigation.

     A spokesperson for the department said, "The department takes every measure to stop the introduction of dangerous drugs or unauthorised articles into correctional institutions in order to maintain good order and discipline in a drug-free environment for all people in its custody."

     There have been 51 seizures of dangerous drugs by Correctional officers to date this year.
