Correctional officers intercept smuggling of suspected dangerous drugs into reception centre

     Correctional officers intercepted the smuggling of suspected dangerous drugs concealed inside the body of a male remand person in custody at Lai Chi Kok Reception Centre today (September 17).

     Upon his admission at the reception centre yesterday, the 66-year-old remand person in custody underwent X-ray body scanning and was put under close monitoring as he was suspected to have swallowed some drugs.

     By 5.35pm today he had discharged nine packs of suspected dangerous drugs wrapped in plastic sheet. The man was remanded for the offence of possession of dangerous drugs.

     The case has been reported to the Police for investigation.

     A spokesperson for the Correctional Services Department said, "The department takes every measure to stop the introduction of dangerous drugs or unauthorised articles into correctional institutions in order to maintain good order and discipline in a drug-free environment for all people in its custody."
