Correctional officers intercept smuggling of suspected dangerous drugs into reception centre

Correctional officers at Lai Chi Kok Reception Centre today (November 12) intercepted suspected dangerous drugs which were concealed inside the body of a male remand person in custody.

Upon admission to the institution yesterday, the 39-year-old male remand person in custody underwent X-ray body scanning and was suspected to have swallowed some drugs before admission. He was therefore put under close monitoring.

Until 10.30am today, he discharged five pellets of suspected dangerous drugs wrapped in plastic sheets. The man was remanded for an offence of possession of dangerous drugs.

The case has been reported to the Police for investigation.

A spokesperson for the Correctional Services Department said, "The department takes every measure to stop the introduction of dangerous drugs or unauthorised articles into correctional institutions in order to maintain good order and discipline in a drug-free environment for all people in its custody."
