Correctional officers intercept smuggling of suspected dangerous drugs into reception centre

     Correctional officers at Lai Chi Kok Reception Centre intercepted the smuggling of a quantity of suspected dangerous drugs concealed inside the body of a male remand person in custody into the institution yesterday (November 13).

     After discharging five pellets of suspected dangerous drugs wrapped in plastic sheets two days ago, the 39-year-old male remand person in custody continued to be under close monitoring. At 10.10am yesterday, he discharged nine more pellets of suspected dangerous drugs wrapped in plastic sheets. The man was remanded for the offence of possession of dangerous drugs.

     The case has been reported to the Police for investigation.

     A spokesperson for the Correctional Services Department said, "The department takes every measure to stop the introduction of dangerous drugs or unauthorised articles into correctional institutions in order to maintain good order and discipline in a drug-free environment for all people in its custody."
