Correctional Services Department recruits Officers

The Correctional Services Department (CSD) has launched a new round of recruitment starting from November 28 and the deadline for applications will be December 11, the Deputy Principal of the CSD Staff Training Institute, Mr Tsang Chun-wa, said today (December 4). About 50 officers are being recruited in this financial year.

Candidates are required to undergo a physical fitness test, written test, group interview, a Basic Law test and a final interview.

Noting that the theme of the recruitment drive this year is "Shared Mission, Unrivalled Challenges", Mr Tsang said correctional officers are unique in playing specific roles to serve as guardian of society and rehabilitation facilitator. To achieve these tasks, correctional officers help persons in custody to rehabilitate into society, and seek public support for rehabilitated persons to minimise the risk of re-offending, thus enhancing the stability and prosperity of Hong Kong.

He said the CSD will provide market-oriented vocational training and education for young persons in custody as well as interested adults in custody, hoping to help them reintegrate into society more easily by having an increased competitive ability after their release.

In addition, persons in custody will be given psychological counseling services when needed as well as a counseling follow-up service after release.

Mr Tsang added that the CSD attaches great importance to the physical and mental health of staff and strives to promote a healthy and balanced lifestyle among them so that they can better use their leisure time to build up good habits for themselves and their families and reduce work pressure.

He said new recruits will undergo 26 weeks of residential training at the Staff Training Institute. The recruit training programme covers the laws of Hong Kong and academic subjects such as Criminology, Psychology and Penology. It also covers foot drills, weapons and arms training, leadership and self-confidence training, first-aid training and emergency response training.

Further information about the entry requirements and other details of the post of Officer are available on the CSD's website (www.csd.gov.hk).
