CSD holds 10km Distance Run

More than 600 people participated in the annual 10 kilometres Distance Run organised by the Correctional Services Department (CSD) at the main dam, Plover Cove Reservoir in Tai Po today (January 10).

The Commissioner of Correctional Services, Mr Yau Chi-chiu, officiated at the launch ceremony at 9am.

The 10 kilometres Distance Run was one of the events held at the first Sports Meet of Guangdong, Hong Kong and Macau Correctional Officers in 2001. Since then it has become the department's annual activity to promote a healthy and balanced lifestyle for staff members by encouraging them to take part in sports activities.

Apart from serving and retired correctional services officers, also taking part in today's event were representatives from other disciplined services, the Water Supplies Department, students from local tertiary education institutions and staff of Hong Kong St. John Ambulance. More than 10 staff members, as well as their relatives, from the Judiciary, participated in the run for the first time.

Six teenagers also joined the event for the first time. The new teenage category invites youngsters from 12 to 15 years old to run for 2.5 kilometres. The aim is to encourage the teenagers to experience the atmosphere of CSD's sports activities and team spirit, and to help them learn more about the department's work.
