Sick person in custody dies in public hospital

     A sick male person in custody from Tai Lam Correctional Institution died in a public hospital today (February 20).

     The 76-year-old person in custody was sentenced to imprisonment for possession of dangerous drugs in October last year. In mid-January, he was admitted to public hospital due to abdominal discomfort and was subsequently found suffering from multiple hepatic masses and hepatocellular carcinoma. Since then he had been closely treated with care by the medical officer in the centre hospital.

     On February 17, he was admitted to public hospital again due to abdominal pain. His condition suddenly deteriorated this morning and he was certified dead at 9.03am.

     The Correctional Services Department has reported the case to the Police. An inquest will be held by the Coroner's Court in due course.
