Correctional officer assaulted by remand person in custody at Lo Wu Correctional Institution

     A correctional officer was assaulted and injured by a female remand person in custody at Lo Wu Correctional Institution today (April 1).

     At 11.45am, the 50-year-old female remand person in custody under escort suddenly hit the forearm and kicked the abdomen of an officer. After the arrival of reinforcement staff, the female remand person in custody was separated immediately. She and the officer were conveyed to the centre hospital for examination. She was transferred to Siu Lam Psychiatric Centre for further assessment after examination by the Medical Officer, while the injured officer was treated in the centre hospital and was not required to be transferred to public hospital.

     The Correctional Services Department has reported the case to the Police for investigation.

     The person in custody was remanded for the offence of common assault.
