Correctional officers assaulted by remand person in custody at Tai Lam Centre for Women

A correctional officer was assaulted by a non-local female remand person in custody at Tai Lam Centre for Women today (May 19).

At 8.28am, while two correctional officers were arranging for the 27-year-old remand person in custody to go from her cell to the bathroom for shower, the person in custody suddenly turned emotionally unstable inside her cell. She threw her sandal towards one of the officers and spat at her.

The officers immediately called for reinforcement. The remand person in custody gradually calmed down upon the arrival of the reinforcement staff. The officer assaulted was examined at the centre hospital where she was found to have sustained no injury.

The Correctional Services Department has reported the case to the Police for investigation.

The person in custody was remanded for the offence of assault occasioning actual bodily harm.
