Correctional officers intercept smuggling of suspected dangerous drugs into reception centre

     Correctional officers seized a small quantity of suspected dangerous drugs from the private belongings of a remand person in custody in Lai Chi Kok Reception Centre today (May 23).

     At 3.35pm, while conducting security check against a 43-year-old male remand person in custody newly admitted to the reception office, the officers found a small plastic bag containing white crystal-like object suspected to be dangerous drugs from a pocket of his trousers.

     The case has been reported to the Police for investigation.

     A spokesperson for the Correctional Services Department said, "The department takes every measure to stop the introduction of dangerous drugs or unauthorised articles into correctional institutions in order to maintain good order and discipline in a drug-free environment for all people in its custody."

     The person in custody was remanded for offences of possession of dangerous drugs and possession and use forged identity card.
