Correctional officers intercept smuggling of suspected dangerous drugs into reception centre

     Correctional officers at Lai Chi Kok Reception Centre yesterday (July 13) intercepted a foreign male remand person in custody smuggling suspected dangerous drugs into the reception centre by concealing them inside the body.

     On July 13, the 34-year-old newly admitted person in custody was remanded in the institution for the offence of trafficking in dangerous drugs. After undergoing X-ray body scanning and preliminary investigation, he was suspected by a correctional officer to have concealed dangerous drugs inside his body and was therefore separated and put under close monitoring.

     At 7.45pm on the same day, a correctional officer seized one pack of suspected dangerous drugs wrapped in plastic sheet from the stool of the remand person in custody. The case has been reported to the Police for investigation.

     A spokesperson for the Correctional Services Department said, "The department takes every measure to stop the introduction of dangerous drugs or unauthorised articles into correctional institutions in order to maintain good order and discipline in a drug-free environment for all people in its custody."
