Person in custody attacks correctional staff at Nei Kwu Correctional Institution

     A 26-year-old female person in custody with history of mental illness assaulted correctional officers at Nei Kwu Correctional Institution yesterday (September 11).

     At 7.18pm, the person in custody was interviewed by correctional officers inside the interview room. During the interview, she suddenly became emotional and assaulted a correctional officer. Staff at the scene immediately stopped her and subdued her by using OC Foam.

     The person in custody sustained minor injuries on her face and was sent to the centre hospital for medical examination and treatment.  In view of her unstable emotions, she was referred to public hospital for further treatment. Besides, four correctional officers who had sustained minor injuries in the incident were treated in the centre hospital and did not require to be transferred to public hospital.

     The case has been reported to the Police for investigation.

     The assailant was serving sentence for the offence of obtaining service by deception.
