Correctional Services Department combats illicit activities

     The Correctional Services Department (CSD) today (March 24) launched an operation at Stanley Prison to combat illicit activities.

     Following up on intelligence, the management of Stanley Prison recently seized homemade gambling paraphernalia in a workshop. The management subsequently launched a series of operations to combat illicit activities inside the institution.

     As revealed by intelligence reports, some persons in custody intended to organise illicit collective activities against the management's recent action. Following assessment and detailed planning, the department today deployed reinforcement to conduct search operations on targeted locations and persons in custody. During the operations, homemade gambling paraphernalia and betting records were seized. Up to now, 12 persons in custody suspected to have been involved in the illicit actions have been removed from association for investigation. The present situation at the prison is stable. The department will closely monitor the developments as well as the activities of the persons in custody concerned.

     In order to assist persons in custody to rehabilitate in a safe and orderly environment, the CSD spares no effort in combating illicit activities of all kinds in its institutions.

     Stanley Prison is a maximum security prison for the detention of male adult persons in custody including those who committed serious offences.
