Correctional officers stop assault by person in custody

     Correctional Services officers stopped a person in custody from assaulting other persons in custody at Shek Pik Prison today (April 18) afternoon.

     At 1.50pm, a 55-year-old male person in custody suddenly attacked two male persons in custody, aged 41 and 29, with a tool in the Bookbinding Workshop. The staff immediately stopped the assault and called for reinforcements.

     Both victims sustained head injuries. After receiving examination and treatment by the medical officer in the centre hospital, the victim aged 41 with more severe injuries was transferred to a public hospital for further treatment. A correctional officer sustained minor neck injury during the incident and was also transferred to a public hospital for further treatment.

     The case has been reported to the Police for investigation.

     The assailant was sentenced to imprisonment for the offence of shooting at any person with intent to cause grievous bodily harm.
