Person under supervision assaults correctional officer on supervision duties

A 29-year-old man under supervision assaulted a correctional officer who was performing supervision duties today (May 31), causing the officer to sustain minor injuries.

At 11.45am today, three officers of the Rehabilitation Unit met a supervisee subject to recall while paying a home visit in Cheung Chau. They then tried to arrest him. The supervisee suddenly became emotionally unstable and tried to flee with a cutter in his hand. During a struggle, one of the officers was injured on his left palm by the cutter and the supervisee was subdued afterwards.

The officer sustained minor injuries and went to a public hospital for treatment.

The case has been reported to the Police for follow-up.

The person under supervision was sentenced to undergo treatment at Hei Ling Chau Addiction Treatment Centre in January 2015 for the offence of possession of dangerous drugs and in July 2015 was released subject to a year's statutory supervision.
