Sick person in custody dies in public hospital

      A sick 61-year-old male person in custody at Lai Chi Kok Reception Centre died in a public hospital today (February 3).

     At 10.33pm on January 12, the person in custody felt dizzy in the dormitory and was transferred to the centre hospital for treatment. Upon treatment, the institutional Medical Officer referred him to a public hospital for further treatment. Since then, he all along received in-patient treatment in the hospital with the diagnosis of stroke. At 9.30am this morning, his physical condition suddenly deteriorated and he was certified dead at 9.44am today.

     The case has been reported to the Police. A death inquest will be held by the Coroner's Court.

     The person in custody was sentenced for the offence of theft.
