Correctional officers stop fighting among persons in custody and combat illicit activity

     Correctional officers at Tai Tam Gap Correctional Institution stopped a fight among persons in custody yesterday (December 2).

     At 1.53pm yesterday, 16 young male persons in custody aged between 17 and 20 were found fighting inside the dining hall of the institution. Officers at the scene immediately stopped the fight and called for reinforcement. Seven of them sustained minor injuries during the fight. They were treated by the institution Medical Officer but did not need to be transferred to a public hospital. The case has been reported to the Police for investigation and all the persons in custody concerned were removed from association and put under investigation.

     The Correctional Services Department (CSD), after assessment and planning, deployed reinforcements to Tai Tam Gap Correctional Institution this morning (December 3) to conduct a search operation and adopt security measure by transferring some instigators of the fight to another institution so as to maintain order and discipline. The atmosphere at Tai Tam Gap Correctional Institution is currently stable. The CSD will continue to closely monitor any developments.

     In order to assist persons in custody to rehabilitate in a safe and orderly environment, the CSD spares no effort in combating illicit activities of all kinds in its institutions.

     Tai Tam Gap Correctional Institution is an institution for the detention of male young persons in custody aged between 14 to 21 years old.
