Inmate attacks correctional services staff at Hei Ling Chau Drug Addiction Treatment Centre

An officer of the Correctional Services Department was assaulted by an inmate in Hei Ling Chau Drug Addiction Treatment Centre (Annex) today (January 7).

The incident happened at 8.30am when the female officer, surnamed Lau, entered a dormitory to find out why an inmate refused to get up for taking meal. The female inmate suddenly pushed down Lau and hit her on the head with a plastic stool. Lau called for assistance and her colleagues arrived immediately to subdue the inmate.

The case was reported to the police. Lau was sent to Queen Elizabeth Hospital and later discharged after medical treatment.

The inmate, surnamed Fung, breached the supervision order and was sent to Hei Ling Chau Drug Addiction Treatment Centre (Annex) on January 2, 2007.
