Death of Pik Uk Correctional Institution inmate

An inmate of Pik Uk Correctional Institution (PUCI) was admitted to the institution's hospital for treatment and observation today (May 22) after he reported sick. In the afternoon, the inmate had chest discomfort and after examination, his condition deteriorated and he was sent immediately to the United Christian Hospital for further treatment.

He was certified dead about 4pm today.

His family was informed of his condition and the death. Police have been informed, too. An inquest will be held by the Coroner's Court.

The 16-year-old inmate, surname Chiu, was admitted to PUCI in 2006. He was convicted of trafficking in a dangerous drug and was sentenced to 10 years and eight months imprisonment.
