Stanley prisoner found committing suicide

A prisoner was found committing suicide by staff of the Correctional Services Department (CSD) today (December 28) in a prison cell in Stanley Prison.

At about 6am, the male prisoner was found hanging from a bed sheet tied to the window bar inside the cell. CSD staff immediately lowered him and gave first-aid treatment. He has been sent to the Pamela Youde Nethersole Eastern Hospital for further treatment.

His family and the Police have been informed of the incident.

The 31-year-old prisoner, surnamed Liu, was convicted of "trafficking in a dangerous drug" and has been sentenced to 13 years' imprisonment.
