CSD reports death of Siu Lam Psychiatric Centre inmate

A 46-year-old inmate of Siu Lam Psychiatric Centre (SLPC) was found unconscious in his cell by staff of the institution shortly after 7am today (February 13).

First aid was immediately given at the scene, a spokesperson of the Correctional Services Department said. The inmate was then taken to Tuen Mun Hospital and was certified dead at 8.22am.

The case was reported to police and his relative was informed. An inquest into the prisoner's death will be held by the Coroner's Court.

The inmate, surname Chan, was convicted of loitering and was ordered in December last year to be detained in SLPC under the Mental Health Ordinance.
