Lai Chi Kok Reception Centre prisoner found committing suicide

 

Correctional Services Department (CSD) staff today (February 26) successfully stopped a male prisoner from committing suicide in the toilet of a hospital ward in Lai Chi Kok Reception Centre.

Shortly after midnight, the prisoner was found hanging from a pair of trousers tied to the window bar inside the toilet. CSD staff immediately lowered him and gave him treatment. He was conscious and was sent to Princess Margaret Hospital for further treatment.

His family has been informed of the incident.

The 46-year-old prisoner, surnamed Li, was convicted of "trafficking in a dangerous drug" and has been sentenced to eight months' imprisonment.
