Inmates complete beauty care course at LKCI

Ten inmates of Chi Lan Rehabilitation Centre (CLRC) today (June 7) received beautician certificates, witnessed by Correctional Services Department (CSD) staff, voluntary beauty tutors and fellow inmates.

They joined the CICA International Beautician Certificate course held at the Lai King Correctional Institution (LKCI) between April and June. They completed an examination last week after receiving training of 100 hours.

The course is among the programmes designed for a rehabilitation project for prisoners jointly organised by the CSD and the International CICA Association of Esthetics (CIDESCO Section China). It started with teaching on skin cleansing, massage techniques, mask therapy, facial treatments, hand treatments, understanding of supplies and tools for make-up, make-up techniques and customer service.

Course tutors were provided by CICA.

Speaking at the certificate presentation ceremony, Superintendent of the LKCI, Miss Carroline Ng, said this training course was the fifth in the series of continuous cooperation between CSD and CICA, and a total of 47 inmates had been trained so far.

"With their achievement in the course, inmates not only can support themselves through their own efforts after release, they also learn how to get along with people in harmony and set out their objectives in life," she said.

"The CSD is committed to providing diversified vocational training for inmates and assisting them to attain accredited qualifications, which helps improve their employability and facilitates their reintegration into society after release," Miss Ng added.

Situated at 16 Wa Tai Road, Kwai Chung, LKCI is a minimum security institution established in May 2008. It has a capacity of 240 penal places for young female offenders aged from 14 to under 21, of which 40 penal places are for young female offenders of the CLRC.
