Correctional staff seize suspected dangerous drugs

Officers of the Correctional Services Department (CSD) today (April 8) stopped an attempt to smuggle suspected dangerous drugs into the Lai Chi Kok Reception Centre after seizing a quantity of suspected dangerous drugs from an inmate on remand in the centre.

The male inmate, aged 47, was admitted to the centre on April 5 for an offence of trafficking in dangerous drugs.

Acting on intelligence and during security checks, officers found that he had discharged a total of seven tablets of suspected dangerous drugs wrapped in plastic sheets at three occasions since yesterday (April 7).

The CSD spokesperson said, "with effective mechanism to collect intelligence, the department takes every measure to stop the introduction of dangerous drugs into correctional institutions and to eradicate their presence there. We are committed to maintaining a drug-free environment for all people in its custody."

The case has been reported to the Police for investigation.

There have been 54 seizures of dangerous drugs this year to date. Most seizures were made in reception centres.
