Correctional officers subdue violent inmate attempting to escape

Correctional officers subdued an inmate after he attempted to escape at a hospital last night (April 15).

The inmate, aged 31, was recalled due to a breach of supervision order and was referred to Queen Elizabeth Hospital for medical treatment yesterday.

While under hospitalisation, the inmate attempted to escape and used a metal clip grabbed from the bedside rails as a sharp object. He pointed it at one of the officers and threatened to cause a self-inflicted wound to his neck region.

The officers immediately raised the alarm. After giving repeated warnings in vain, the officers had to use force to subdue him.

During the incident, the officers and the inmate sustained minor injuries. They were given medical treatment.

The case was reported to the Police for investigation.
