Correctional staff seize suspected dangerous drugs

Officers of the Correctional Services Department (CSD) today (April 18) rapidly stopped the smuggling of dangerous drugs into Lai Chi Kok Reception Centre by a remand inmate.

The male inmate, aged 44, was admitted to the centre yesterday for the offence of possessing dangerous drugs. During security checks, officers found that he had discharged a total of 13 pieces of suspected dangerous drugs wrapped in plastic.

The CSD spokesperson said, "The department takes every measure to stop the introduction of dangerous drugs into correctional institutions and to eradicate their presence there. We are committed to maintaining a drug-free environment for all people in its custody."

The case has been reported to the Police for investigation.

There have been 60 seizures of dangerous drugs this year to date. Most seizures were made in reception centres.
