Correctional officers seized a total of 13 packs of suspected dangerous drugs from two inmates remanded at Lai Chi Kok Reception Centre during security checks today (September 20), thereby stopping an attempt to smuggle dangerous drugs into correctional institutions.

The two male inmates, aged 37 and 42, have been remanded since mid-September for the offence of trafficking in a dangerous drug. The two cases today were reported to the Police.

A Correctional Services Department spokesperson said, "With an effective mechanism to collect intelligence, the department takes every measure to stop the introduction of dangerous drugs into correctional institutions and to eradicate their presence there. We are committed to maintaining a drug-free environment for all people in its custody."

There have been 124 seizures of dangerous drugs so far this year. Most of the seizures were made in reception centres.
