Correctional officers stop smuggling of suspected dangerous drugs into correctional institution

     Correctional officers seized 11 tablets of suspected dangerous drugs inside a briefcase belonged to an inmate remanded at Lai Chi Kok Reception Centre today (December 15), stopping an attempt to smuggle dangerous drugs into correctional institution.

      The seizure made during security checks at about 10.20am has been reported to the Police for further investigation. The 46-year-old male inmate was remanded at the reception centre for an offence of remaining in Hong Kong without authority.

      A Correctional Services Department spokesperson said, "With an effective mechanism to collect intelligence, the department takes every measure to stop the introduction of dangerous drugs into correctional institutions and to eradicate their presence there. We are committed to maintaining a drug-free environment for all people in its custody."

      There have been 150 seizures of dangerous drugs so far this year. Most of the seizures were made in reception centres.
