Correctional officers intercept suspected dangerous drugs and unauthorised article

Correctional Services Officers at Lai Chi Kok Reception Centre seized a small quantity of suspected dangerous drugs from a remand inmate and intercepted an unauthorised article and traces of suspected dangerous drugs in a letter addressed to another remand inmate today (January 17).

At about 11.50am, officers discovered two tablets of suspected dangerous drugs in the jacket of a 41-year-old remand inmate during a security check. Earlier on, officers found an unauthorised article, one unused stamp concealed under the posted stamp on an envelope, and traces of suspected dangerous drugs in a letter sent to a remand inmate, aged 25, during a security check at about 11.20am.

The two men were on remand for the offence of trafficking in dangerous drugs.

The two cases were reported to the Police for further investigation.

A spokesperson for the department said, "The department takes every measure to stop the introduction of dangerous drugs or unauthorised articles into correctional institutions in order to maintain good order and discipline in a drug-free environment for all people in its custody."

There have been four seizures of dangerous drugs to date this year. Most seizures were made in reception centres.
