Correctional officers intercept suspected dangerous drugs

Correctional officers seized a quantity of suspected dangerous drugs from an inmate at Tai Lam Centre for Women today (January 21), preventing an attempt to smuggle dangerous drugs into a correctional institution.

The officers seized 20 pellets of suspected dangerous drugs wrapped in plastic sheets from the inmate during security checks. The 34-year-old female inmate was recalled to the centre for breaching a Drug Addiction Treatment Centres supervision order.

The case was reported to the Police for further investigation.

A Correctional Services Department spokesperson said, "With an effective mechanism to collect intelligence, the department takes every measure to stop the introduction of dangerous drugs into correctional institutions and to eradicate their presence there. We are committed to maintaining a drug-free environment for all people in our custody."

There have been five seizures of dangerous drugs so far this year. Most of the seizures were made in reception centres.
