Correctional officers intercept smuggling of suspected dangerous drugs into reception centre

     Correctional Services Officers seized a quantity of suspected dangerous drugs from an inmate at Lai Chi Kok Reception Centre yesterday (March 21).

     At about 7.30pm, the officers searched and found 39 tablets of suspected dangerous drugs wrapped in plastic sheet and concealed in the underwear of a 37-year-old male inmate. The inmate is serving a sentence of 28 months for offences of making a false representation to an immigration officer and possession of false travel document.

     The case was reported to the Police for investigation.

     A spokesperson for the department said, "The department takes every measure to stop the introduction of dangerous drugs or unauthorised articles into correctional institutions in order to maintain good order and discipline in a drug-free environment for all people in its custody."

     There have been 22 seizures of dangerous drugs to date this year. Most of the seizures were made in reception centres.
