Correctional officers stop remand inmate from self-harm

     Correctional Services officers stopped a remand inmate from hurting himself in Pik Uk Correctional Institution today (July 6).

      During an interview by the officers for breaching institutional discipline requirement at 9.11am, the 18-year-old male remand inmate suddenly turned emotional and banged his head against a plastic board hanging on the wall. Officers at scene immediately stopped him from further hurting himself with the use of Oleoresin Capsicum foam.

      The remand inmate sustained minor injury on his head and was treated by a medical officer in the centre hospital. He will be referred to clinical psychologist for further assessment.

      The inmate was remanded for an offence of breach of probation order.
