Correctional officers seizes suspected dangerous drugs in reception centre

     Correctional officers seized three packs of suspected dangerous drugs at Tai Lam Centre for Women yesterday (July 12).

      At 3.05pm, officers seized three packs of suspected dangerous drugs wrapped in three condoms from a tea mug issued to a 27-year-old pregnant remand inmate. The pregnant remand was under medical observation and security surveillance inside the centre hospital. It is suspected that she has concealed the drugs inside her body.

      The case was reported to the Police for investigation.

      The inmate was remanded for the offence of trafficking in a dangerous drug.

      A spokesperson for the department said, "The department takes every measure to stop the introduction of dangerous drugs or unauthorised articles into correctional institutions in order to maintain good order and discipline in a drug-free environment for all people in its custody."

      There have been 51 seizures of dangerous drugs to date this year. Most of the seizures were made in reception centres.
