Remand inmate of Lai Chi Kok Reception Centre attacks correctional officer

A male remand inmate of Lai Chi Kok Reception Centre (LCKRC) attacked a correctional officer in a departmental vehicle yesterday (October 24), causing injury to the officer.

At around 4.15pm yesterday, the 29-year-old male remand inmate suddenly turned emotional and attacked an escort officer with his pair of handcuffs when he was on board a departmental vehicle leaving LCKRC. The remand inmate was immediately stopped and escorted back to the Centre. While alighting the vehicle, the remand inmate was still emotionally unstable and continued to struggle. As warnings given to him were in vain, OC foam was applied against him and he was eventually subdued.

An officer sustained injury during the incident. He was sent to a public hospital for medical treatment.

The case was reported to the Police.

The male inmate was remanded for the offence of assault occasioning actual bodily harm.
