Introduction

The CSD Rehabilitation Volunteer Group (RVG) was formed in January 2004. As of today, it has been established for more than 10 years. Its goal is to encourage the public to support and participate in rehabilitation work.

Objectives

The RVG aims to provide appropriate services to both persons in custody (PICs) and rehabilitated persons to help them rehabilitate and re-integrate into society. Through their direct involvement, volunteers help appeal to the community to accept and support rehabilitated persons and further promote rehabilitation work. Volunteers are also encouraged to develop and foster their civic responsibility by participating in voluntary work, thereby enhancing their sense of mission and understanding of the community.

Areas of Service

One major area of work for RVG members is to conduct a variety of hobby classes for PICs in various institutions. A broad range of language courses such as Mandarin, Cantonese, English, Spanish and Japanese have been offered to PICs. Members have also offered courses on computer applications, beauty and skincare, Chinese calligraphy and Tai Chi.

The RVG has participated actively in different events of the Department with the aim of promoting rehabilitation work. Recently, RVG members have started to contribute to community education under the “Rehabilitation Pioneer Project”. Organising activities such as Education Talks and Green Haven Scheme, CSD seeks to disseminate the messages of leading a law-abiding and drug-free life as well as supporting offender rehabilitation to the youth.
