Vocational Training Unit

* Objectives:

Vocational training courses are provided for offenders to facilitate their smooth re-integration into the community. The principal objectives of vocational training are:

1. Cultivation of work habit and discipline;
2. Engagement in vocational hands on practical training;
3. Acquisition of market demanded job skills;
4. Gaining public-accredited qualifications; and
5. Bridging to continuing vocational training, where appropriate.

* Functions and Services Provided :

A wide variety of training courses in technical or business streams are provided for young inmates and prisoners. They include:

1. courses which allow inmates and prisoners to obtain vocational qualifications by ways of public examinations of the City & Guilds;
2. courses which allow them to obtain skill recognition by taking the trade tests conducted by the Vocational Training Council or the Construction Industry Council Training Academy; and
3. courses which prepare them to acquire vocational skills for job placement.

Where appropriate, we help adult prisoners obtain skill recognition by taking work related training and trade tests conducted by external training bodies. Resources permitting, we also run suitable pre-release vocational training courses to prepare them for employment after release.
