[Photo ] Message from the Commissioner of Correctional Services, Welcome to the homepage of the Correctional Services Department. This homepage is a bridge between the community and the Correctional Services Department. It helps you understand our services, particularly penal management. There are publications online, such as the Annual Review, which provide information about our work. Those interested in our current activities may watch the videos and browse the press releases and the Guardian, which is a monthly publication covering our latest developments. A search function is also available to help you quickly find the contents that suit your needs. On this homepage, there is also information about one of our prime tasks -- rehabilitation of persons in custody. These include various treatment programmes, industries and vocational training, and organising community support and involvement activities. This echoes our slogan “Support offender rehabilitation for a safer and more inclusive society” on the portal. With the opening of Lo Wu Correctional Institution in August 2010, overcrowding in female institutions has been considerably relieved. Nevertheless, alleviating prison overcrowding (particularly in Reception Centres) and meeting the demand for integrated and modern prison facilities remain our major challenge. Given that some of the institutions are non-purpose built with aging facilities beyond economical repair, and short of space for classrooms and other rehabilitation facilities, we will continue to re-develop old institutions.
