[* ] Objectives:
Formal education classes for general, commercial and computer related subjects are provided for young offenders.  These aim at helping the youngsters re-integrate into society on their discharge by enhancing their basic academic standards, acquiring work skills, improving their inter-personal skills and restoring their self-esteem and confidence through our programmes. Every effort is made to assist the adult offenders in their voluntary self studies. We believe that, through education, prisoners' positive attitude and values can be nurtured.

[* ] Functions and Services Provided

Formal day classes conducted by qualified teachers are run in young offender institutions. In parallel with the long-established general subjects, computer applications and commercial subjects were also introduced in the past years. This achieves a better balance for the inmates to improve their language skills and acquire more practical knowledge. In response to the social needs, examinations with public accreditation set clear targets for the inmates. We encourage inmates to study for external examinations such as the Hong Kong Certificate of Education Examination, Hong Kong Advanced Level Examination, General Certificate of Eduction Examinations (London Examinations), Hong Kong Institute of Accredited Accounting Technicians Examinations, LCCI International Qualifications and City & Guilds Examinations.

We encourage adult prisoners to participate in self-studying courses or distance learning programmes to make the optimal use of the resources and expertise from external accredited educational organisations. Increasing numbers of inmates have been enrolled in tertiary education in recent years.
