Correctional officers intercept smuggling of suspected dangerous drugs into reception centre

     Correctional officers intercepted the smuggling of suspected dangerous drugs into Lai Chi Kok Reception Centre by a remand person in custody today (May 6).

     At 4.15pm, while conducting a security check on a newly admitted 28-year-old male remand person in custody, the officers found a small plastic bag of white powder suspected to be dangerous drugs from the pocket of his trousers.

     The Correctional Services Department (CSD) immediately referred the case to the Police for further investigation.

     A spokesperson for the CSD said, "The department takes every measure to stop the introduction of dangerous drugs into correctional institutions in order to maintain good order and discipline in a drug-free environment for all people in its custody."

     The person in custody was remanded for the offence of theft.
