Unconscious remand person in custody dies in hospital

A 28-year-old male remand person in custody who had been found unconscious in Lai Chi Kok Reception Centre died in a public hospital today (March 10).

The person in custody was remanded for the offence of criminal intimidation yesterday (March 9). He suffered from mental illness and arrangements were made for him to receive medical observation in the institution hospital. At 7.54am today, he was found unconscious on his bed in a hospital ward by a correctional officer. The officer immediately provided first aid treatment to him and called for reinforcement and ambulance to send him to a public hospital for further rescue. His condition deteriorated and he was certified dead at 8.31am.

The case has been reported to the Police. A death inquest will be held by the Coroner's Court.
