Correctional officers stop remand person in custody from attacking staff member

​Correctional officers at Lai Chi Kok Reception Centre stopped a male remand person in custody from attacking a staff member today (November 25).

At 7.09pm today, a 59-year-old male remand person in custody suddenly became emotional and attacked a correctional officer inside a cell. Officers at the scene immediately stopped the assailant and applied OC foam to subdue him after repeated warnings were ignored.

During the incident, the officer sustained injuries to his head. After examination and treatment at the institution hospital, he was referred to a public hospital for further treatment. Another officer sustained injuries to his hand when assisting to subdue the assailant. He did not need to be sent to a public hospital after examination and treatment at the institution hospital. The assailant did not sustain any injuries.

The case has been reported to the Police for investigation.

The assailant was remanded for the offence of criminal damage in October 2023.
