Correctional staff seize suspected dangerous drugs

Correctional officers found a visitor to Lo Wu Correctional Institution in possession of suspected dangerous drugs yesterday (July 7).

The man, aged around 35, came for a visit at around 3pm but disappeared after registration. Officers saw him leaving a toilet for the disabled and discovered two needle syringes in a rubbish bin inside the toilet.

On following the man, officers further found six packs of suspected dangerous drugs dropped out from him.

The officers immediately called the Police and handed over the man and seizure for investigation.

"With effective mechanism to collect intelligence, the department takes every measure to stop the introduction of dangerous drugs into correctional institutions and to eradicate their presence there. We are committed to maintaining a drug-free environment for all people in its custody," a CSD spokesperson said.

There have been 87 seizures of dangerous drugs this year to date. Most seizures were made in reception centres.
