Mercury Awards 2018-2019

The Video “Correctional Officers under the storm” Wins an International Award

Filmed and produced by the Media Communication Unit, the video “Correctional Officers under the storm” has recently won the Gold Award under the “Social Media Category” of 2018-19 Mercury Awards. The award is presented by an overseas organisation, “MerComm Inc”, to honour the best in public relations, public affairs and corporate communications.

“Correctional Officers under the storm” is a video that depicts the widespread devastation inflicted by Super Typhoon Mangkhut, the strongest typhoon in a century, while sweeping through Hong Kong. During the typhoon, correctional officers made their way to institutions for duty in stormy winds and heavy rain, showing no fear to inclement weather. They were committed to accomplishing duties to protect the public and persons in custody. Under the storm, some officers even worked together to repair the damaged facilities or remove the collapsed trees to clear up the road so that the security and emergency rescues of institutions were not affected.

The Video “Lai Chi Kok Reception Centre - The CSD’s first Rampart” Wins an International Award

Filmed and produced by the Media Communication Unit, the video “Lai Chi Kok Reception Centre - The CSD’s first Rampart” has recently won the Silver Award under the “Promotional/Documentary” Category of “Video - DVD/Online” of 2018-19 Mercury Awards. The award is presented by an overseas organisation, “MerComm Inc”, to honour the best in public relations, public affairs and corporate communications.

The video “Lai Chi Kok Reception Centre - The CSD’s first Rampart” features correctional officers working in an institution as the starting point of gaining experience, especially in Lai Chi Kok Reception Centre (LCKRC).
At the crack of dawn while most people are still asleep, correctional officers of LCKRC are already very busy escorting different categories of persons in custody to courts, transferring them to institutions or escorting them to outside clinics/hospitals for medical treatment in time. Adjectives such as “bustling”, “crowded”, “complicated” and “unpredictable” can be used to describe the environment in LCKRC. To ensure its safe, secure and smooth operation despite challenges, correctional officers still dedicate themselves to guarding this “first rampart” round the clock through sunshine or rain. While watching the video, we can feel the fast pace of the rampart and understand how correctional officers surmount difficulties and rise to challenges.
