Correctional officers intercept smuggling of suspected dangerous drugs into institution

     Correctional officers at Tai Lam Centre for Women successfully intercepted suspected dangerous drugs which were concealed inside the body of a female remand person in custody today (January 2)

     Upon admission to the institution few days ago, the 41-year-old female remand person in custody was suspected to have swallowed dangerous drugs and therefore close monitoring was conducted. By around 7.55am today, she had discharged a total of five small packs of suspected dangerous drugs wrapped in plastic sheet. The woman was remanded for the offence of trafficking in dangerous drugs.

     The case has been reported to the Police for investigation.

     A spokesperson for the department said, "The department takes every measure to stop the introduction of dangerous drugs or unauthorised articles into correctional institutions in order to maintain good order and discipline in a drug-free environment for all people in its custody."

     There have been two seizures of dangerous drugs to date this year.
