Correctional officers intercept smuggling of suspected dangerous drugs into institution

      Correctional officers at Tai Lam Centre for Women seized a small quantity of suspected dangerous drugs from a newly admitted remand person in custody today (January 18).

      During admission search by officers at the centre at about 3.25pm, one small plastic bag of white powder, suspected to be dangerous drugs, was found in the jacket pocket of the 40-year-old female person in custody. The woman was remanded for an offence of trafficking in dangerous drugs.

      The case has been reported to the Police.

      A spokesperson for the department said, "The department takes every measure to stop the introduction of dangerous drugs or unauthorised articles into correctional institutions in order to maintain good order and discipline in a drug-free environment for all people in its custody."

      There have been 12 seizures of dangerous drugs to date this year.
